My greatest influences transverse a monastic life with a social one.
Ani Choying Drolma stepped over supposed limitations as a nun to pursue a career in music. And she’s working to broaden what’s acceptable for nuns to have and do. Like creative freedom, and mobility.
She tours the world singing and is revered by other musicians. She doesn’t live in subservience. She celebrates earning money and sharing it for a purpose: to liberate other Nepalese women.
She uses her personal freedom for the benefit of others, and subscribes to the idea that hers is a positive kind of selfishness that we all have. She gets such pleasure from helping others, she wants to do that again.
